Stephen William Hawking was a British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who has provided the voice of his own head in a jar on Futurama. Hawking is most noted for his work in the fields of theoretical cosmology and quantum gravity, and provided the theoretical argument for the existence of Hawking radiation emitted by black holes. He was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge from 1979 until 2009, and is a noted advocate of popular science and the existence of extraterrestrial life. He has appeared as himself in many television shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and has made multiple appearances on The Simpsons.
His book A Brief History of Time is parodied in Bender's Big Score.
According to David X. Cohen in a June 2011 interview, Stephen Hawking was one of his favourite voice actors to have participated on Futurama, and he was happy to have had a brief chat with him about superstition and numbers.[1]
