The apartment of Dr. Mbutu is a high class rent controlled apartment, located in New New York. Until Dr. Mbutu's untimely death in 3000, it was his home on Earth, when he travelled the universe. His apartment was filled with his collection of priceless artifacts which he expanded as he travelled the universe.
After his death, Philip J. Fry and Bender Bending Rodríguez moved into the apartment, as a result of Professor Farnsworth's friendship to Dr. Mbutu. Unfortunately, Bender's antenna interferred with the satellite television in this apartment, as well as all the other residents' televisions in the building.
As a result, Bender was thrown out by the landlady, Hattie. Bender, desperate to be Fry's roommate, decided to cut off his antenna to live with Fry, but when Fry realised Bender had second thoughts, he finally agreed to move out of the fancy apartment and back into Bender's.
