The birthing machine is a creation of Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, used to rebirth the crew members after the crash that occurred after they emerged through the Panama Wormhole. Its exact origins, functioning methods and general purpose other than this remains unknown until "Rebirth" has aired. Even its name may be disputed.[1]
