Welcome!

Welcome to the Infosphere! We're glad to have you as a member. If you need any help, feel free to ask anyone on the welcoming committee. You can also post questions on the FAQ talk page.

New users must read the Help pages before creating a new page.

Here are some tips to get you started:

  • If you need general information, editing tips, or answers to frequently asked questions, check out the help page.
  • Before you do any significant editing, be sure to familiarize yourself with our wiki standards and our Manual of Style.
    • If you have an idea for a major change that will help The Infosphere, suggest it over at the Conference Table.
  • If you want to create a new article, make sure that it doesn't already exist and that the article you've created is linked to from another article. Our article templates should help you out.
  • If you're not sure what you can do to help out, head over to current events.
  • To practice editing, go over to the playground.
  • You can help decide what's on the Main Page by voting on Featured Articles or making new nominations.
  • You can also use "{{subst:UserpageTemplate}}" on your Userpage, if you wish to have a simple starting point. Additionally, you can make use of userboxes
  • Remember to sign your posts to talk pages by using four tildes (~~~~). Alternatively, you can create a custom signature at User:TheFry/sig, and insert it by typing {{User:TheFry/sig}}, preferably followed by five tildes to insert the date.
  • If you have a personal website (Futurama-centric or completely unrelated), feel free to add it to the Community Portal
  • Above all, be sure to be bold and have fun!

Feel free to delete this message when you're done reading it. After all, your user space belongs to you. I hope this information is helpful, and that you'll have a good experience contributing to our knowledge-base and our community.

Sincerely,
Quolnok, and "The Infosphere Welcoming Committee" 03:16, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Userboxes

What do you do to have the userboxes on the right?--TheFry 14:08, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Discovered it. Also, I created my signature— TheFry14:18, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

To protect pages

I can move pages and, can I protect pages such as my user page? — TheFry01:32, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Nope, protecting pages can only be done by admins, and protection works by preventing users of certain groups from accessing a page. Protection of pages is something we usually only do when it has become a target of vandals. For now, there's no need. - Quolnok 10:35, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Uploading images

First, sorry for all my questions. I want to know if I can upload images this ways:

  • I copy an image from Internet, regardless of waht site it came from, to a carpet of my computer. Then I upload it to the site. E.g.: I copy this image (it is just an example) and upload it here. What about copyright? Is it important?
  • I scan a picture made by me. You don't accept fan art, but I want to use it only in my user page. Do you allow it?

Again, sorry for all my questions. 01:59, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

So, can I upload files those ways or I'll wait until next year for the answer? — TheFry21:52, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Let me answer them in your order:
  • Generally, we are not too worried, however, most people will be fine if you just mention in its description where you got it from, so unless a deliberate licence is attached to it, you should be fine.
  • You can upload pretty much what you want for your user page, within the limits of common sense, of course.
--Sviptalk 22:16, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh, so there are no problems if I upload the image above (I won't do it, just an example). Also, my apologizes for the phrase above ("can I upload files those ways or I'll wait next year for the answer?") if it's too angry. — TheFry22:40, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

No problem, but generally, questions on user talk pages can easily get ignored, because they are commonly user related, rather than technical difficult related. Since this question regarded image policy, I would have recommended the conference table. --Sviptalk 22:44, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
