Zapp's voice

"In tribute, Zapp’s voice was modeled in the same style that Phil Hartman had intended for the character" In the commentary to 1ACV04, someone (I think Matt Groening) mentions that Billy West had auditioned as Zapp beside Hartman, and the voice he ended up using was his previous one, not influenced by Hartman's. David X. Cohen, not Matt Groening. In the Infosphere summary: "David explains that Billy is doing his own idea of what Zapp Brannigan would sound like.". Aki 19:44, 9 May 2011 (CEST)
In the Keller interview cited in the reference section:
Joel Keller: Did Zapp Brannigan change much? Because I saw the first episode he was in and it sounded pretty much like how he sounded later.
Billy West: Did he change? Um, I don't know, I try to keep it pretty consistent. Phil Hartman was supposed to do that character, and I was imitating Phil Hartman.
