- The book that the women's book club doesn't read, Crazy Rich Martians, is a parody of Crazy Rich Asians.
- Fry's book club first reads "The Adventure Boys" is a parody of The Hardy Boys.
- Later, Fry's book club discusses Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
- In a later scene, Fry reads the poetry of Robert Burns. Most likely because Burns' poem "To a Mouse", inspired by the title of "Of Mice and Men". The poem he reads is "A Mother's Lament".
Continuity
- When Fry suggests they start their own book club, Bender adds, "With blackjack! And hookers! In fact, forget the book club!" This is a reference to similar jokes Bender made in "The Series Has Landed", which had inspired a plethora of memes on the Internet.
