The Vice President of the United States was the federal officer who was first in the United States presidential line of succession. The office was inaugurated on 21 April, 1789 with John Adams, and VPs were elected indirectly through the Electoral College. Vice Presidents served under the President of the United States and carried out three Constitutionally prescribed duties: serving as President of the U.S. Senate, presiding over the joint session of Congress that convenes to count the Electoral College, and a largely unknown duty to maintain the integrity of the space-time continuum (2ACV16).

By the 31st century the office no longer exists, having been replaced by the Vice President of Earth.
