The Grumpy Snail is piece of music written to be played with the Holophonor, the hologram produced consists of a snail walking on wood. Fry used to play it, but he wasn't very good, and his snail looked like a monster.

The snail in the hologram would become a staple of Fry's music, becoming more distinguished looking as Fry improved, even having a speaking role in an advertisement for "Fry's Greatest Holophonor Hits".
