Is lampshade hanging known by any other terminology? Would you say that deus ex machina is a sub-topic of lampshade hanging that solely involves plot continuation? If I could cite a few more examples would it be worth creating a page for deus ex machina?
(Literally, as I have been writing been writing this, an advert that I have never seen before came on the TV, for a film called Ex Machina. Does synchronization fit in with your numerological bent?)

I would say that Bender being hurled back to Earth is the only correct example of lampshade hanging that is given here, the others, with the possible exception of the robo-dinosaurs, are simply gags, they are incidental to the plot.

If I can find some better examples could we replace them?

Maybe I have it wrong. Is lampshade hanging directly analogous to deus ex machina? -- the preceding unsigned comment was written by 94.10.54.106.
