This article is about the trivia, the quotes, the references, etc. appearing in The Beast with a Billion Backs. It does not, however, include DVD information, character listings and cast information.

It is a separate article due to the fact that the amount of information to deal with in a trivia manner is huge when compared to a regular episode.

Quotes

Leela: Come on Bender, your grandmother could push harder than that.
Bender: No crap. My grandmother was a bulldozer.

Hermes: Professor, sprinkle us with wisdom from your mighty brain. How scared should we be?
Farnsworth: Somewhere between not at all and entirely.
Zoidberg: I call entirely! Ahhhh! Woop woop woop woop!

Colleen: Have you seen how much cotton candy he [Fry] can eat?
Farnsworth: Oh my yes, 5.1 pounds. That's why his blood is so good on pancakes.

Fry: Something about seeing it on the Jumbotron makes it so much more real.
Colleen: It's so scary. Well, what are you supposed to do when the whole universe is about to end?
Fry: I have a thought. [Cut to Fry and Colleen in bed]

Zapp Brannigan: Leela, I can't help but notice that you're unescorted. Might I escort you behind that bush for the next five minutes.
Leela: Nothing would revolt me more.
Zapp Brannigan: Then how about that shrub.

Stephen Hawking: In conclusion, I understand nothing about the anomaly, even after cashing the huge check I got for writing a book about it.

Wernstrom: I have a squad of graduate students willing to risk their lives for a letter of recommendation.
Farnsworth: Your squad sucks bosons. My team is twice as qualified and three times as expendable.
Wernstrom: Tough talk for someone with only one Field's Medal

General Trivia

  • The title is a reference to Shakespeare's line "I am one, sir, that comes to tell you your daughter and the Moor are now making the beast with two backs." in the play Othello (however, use of the phrase dates back before this usage). In "Spanish Fry", the sex shop in which Fry, Bender and Leela enter is called "The Beast with Two Bucks", which is a reference to the same line.
  • It also references, The Beast With a Million Eyes. Incidentally plot of that movie involves a huge alien mind controlling the weak minded, albeit to fuel hatred rather than coerce the world into having sex with it. The movie came out in 1955, and the box art for The Beast With a Billion Backs is modeled after 1950's horror movies involving monsters.
  • A sneak peek was included in a two disc DVD of Bender's Big Score exclusive to Best Buy.
  • The official trailer (in colour) has been released and can be watched at slurmed.com.
  • Fry called DIAL-A-JOKE from Colleen's Apartment a total of 8128 times.
  • The end credits show the actor's name, together with an array of pictures of the characters they voiced. This is similar to The Simpsons Movie.
  • The video track used for the movie is only greater in length than the track used in Bender's Big Score by one second (although is is probably a wild coincidence).
  • In the Prison/Prism rooftop scene, at the start, Stephen Hawking's pickled head can again be seen toward the left. It is on the same "way cool rocket."
  • This is the first time in the series that the Globetrotter Homeworld is seen.
    • Noticibly, there are no female Globetrotters seen leaving it, implying either that they don't exist, or that they left in a separate group from the male ones.
  • Although we are to presume that all inhabitants of Earth other than the robots were genticled by Yivo, we do not see any attached to heads inside of jars, or the sewer mutants.
    • In fact, while most of the previous species seen in Futurama make an appearance in this film, the Sewer Mutants (apart from Leela) do not appear in the film.
  • Noticibly, Yivo was able to "mate" with Decapodians without causing them to suffer gruesome death.
  • This is the first time in the series that we ever see Morbo, in any sort of frightened state. Linda was previously seen as such in "A Taste of Freedom" (4ACV05)
    Episode
  • Yivo apparently gave every being in Universe A/Gamma "the clap", except Leela.
  • Leela managed to break a prison/prism guard's neck without getting caught.
  • Suicide booths have advanced since the pilot. They now have a broader range of choices other than "quick and painless" or "slow and horrible"
  • A picture of Robbie the Robot from the TV series "Lost in Space" can be seen in the secret hideout of the League of Robots.
  • This is the first time we ever see the Australian Guy in a non-enslaved situation.
  • If Yivo can't breathe in our universe, that means shkle needs to produce a gas made of electromatter. It is debatable whether our lungs could break down air made of electromatter, although no man made object in the 31st century can do so, it does not mean nothing in our biology could. We could also surmise Yivo produces normal oxygen for us.
  • A 2D genticle prop can be seen in the 2D Tunnel of Love.
    4th wall break?
  • The one small piece of electromatter couldn't have been split into enough pieces for all the harpoons and weapons of the Army of the Damned. However it could have been several letters instead of one.
  • After Yivo is pulled through the anamoly, the jakabirds disappear, possibly went into hiding.

Allusions

  • Red Minataur, alludes to Red Bull, an existing energy drink.
  • Normal Kombat is a reference to Mortal Kombat.
  • Honkey Kong is a reference to Donkey Kong.
  • Ms. Marple Madness is a reference to both Ms. Marple and Marble Madness.
  • Exlaxian references Exlax, a laxative.
  • Soup bootlegging during soup prohibition refers to alcohol bootlegging during alcohol prohibition.
    • Bathtub ministrone refers to bathtub gin, which was actually any alcoholic beverage made in people's homes during prohibition, usually, as one might guess, in the bathtub. Most often it was just 1 part alcohol and 2 parts water.
  • Bender takes off his hand and hits Calculon with it to invoke a duel. This is an allusion to a very old way of invoking duels where the challenger would slap the challengee with a glove.
  • The scene at the end with Bender battling Yivo's mouth references Jack Sparrow battling the Kraken at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
  • Bender says that he is "Worthier than the average robot" to join the League of Robots. This is a very obvious reference to Yogi Bear, who often said that he was "Smarter than the average bear". He even does the same pose that Yogi makes whenever he says that.
  • Harold Zoid talks about his one line in a DVD movie, referencing his own line in this DVD movie.
    • "Shell phone" also references cell phones.
  • When Yivo escapes out of the anomaly, Mayor Poopenmeyer says, "Look, up in the sky!", to which Hermes says, "It's a bird!", then Hattie says, "It's a plane!", and a superhero says, "I am so outta here!!!" This is a spoof of the old Superman cartoons made by Max Fleischer that always opened with the phrase "Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!"
  • During Kif's funeral, The Grand Midwife starts to sing, and Bender yells, "Next!". This is a reference to most reality music shows.

Continuity

  • Steve Castle can be seen towards the beginning of Yivo's invasion, despite having presumably died of Bone-itus. This may not be a goof however, as we may presume that he was revived, cloned, or that it's his descendant.
  • The characters in Normal Kombat are orange and purple, representing Fry and Leela respectively. The symbolism of these colors is a continuing theme of the series.
  • Bender twangs his antanae/penis on amphibos 9, a running gag in the series.
    • Another running gag involving Bender, where he says "neat" and takes a picture also shows up. It's in the scene with Calculon's plastic surgery. Noticably it was a different color(green instead of purple)

Goofs

Notice Europe on the left, and the Americas on the right.
  • When the Earth's protection is being built, the Earth is mirrored.
  • At the beginning of Deathball, not only is the audience missing, but so are the stadium's seats.
  • During Deathball, when Wernstrom is knocked by the ball through the control room he lands back onto the arena. The next shot both Wernstrom's and the Professor's outlines can be seen in the control room and the glass is not broken.
  • Due to the nature of the Anomaly, machinery and/or metals cannot pass through it. However, when Fry travels through the Anomaly for the first time, his space suit neither causes a reaction nor is it destroyed by it; his suit is clearly mechanical.
  • Hedonism Bot's mouth changes throughout the movie from just showing his "teeth" to showing his "teeth" and two lines across them like Bender.
  • Twice in the movie, the unnamed British robot changes from brown to grey. Although this may have been a trick of the light.
  • At the end, Fry calls Yivo "he" instead of "shkle"
  • In the space battle scene, Yivo had supposedly already invaded both Mars and Decapod 10, but yet we don't see the tentacles stretching anywhere near that far.
    • One plausible explanation for this, is that there are several anomalies throughout the universe, although this is neither confirmed nor hinted at in the film.
  • Amy asserts that Kif tried to kill Yivo, despite Yivo not being particularly known about until after Kif's funeral. Although we can attribute this to Amy being a ditz or overly grief stricken, it was not an intentional error.
  • In real life, the golden escalators, at the speed they went, would take 100's of 1000's of years, if not millions, to carry the residents of Earth (the ones closest to the anomaly) to Yivo's location.
  • If lab animals were stored in a 55 gallon drum like in the film, they would suffocate and (unless eating the other lab animals) starve, perhaps the one Wernstrom used is a life preserving one.
  • In the vacuum of space, Kif manages not only to breath, but to speak to Fry. Both of these things are impossible as there is no air to breath or transmit the sound.
    • It is possible, though, that Kif's species can talk and breathe in space.
  • Yivo claims not to have hurt anyone, although the space battle scene indicates otherwise. At least one ship is seen being destroyed, and the computer screen in the oval office indicates a lot more were as well.
    • It is possible, but unlikely, that they were all being remote controlled like the Nimbus.
  • While on Yivo/heaven, Zoidberg is seen playing on the bouncing "clouds" (on the left of the screen), but then he comes on the right side of the screen, with ice cream.
  • Surely the entire population of a Universe could not have fit on one planet-sized monster, let alone one pirate ship.
    • It can be surmised that Yivo can expand shkler body size much like shkler tentacles, even so however, the size shkle was at the point shkle was dragged through the anomaly was not sufficient.
    • Though "planet-size" is very ambiguous, because it is basically anything from Neptune and upwards. In addition, it should be noted, that all humans ever lived today could all fit in the Isle of Man.
  • When the fumes on Yivo clear away, we see that Yivo's mouth is beak shaped, but it could not have been evenly covered underneath one normal looking mouth.
  • When meeting Yivo's body for the second time, Fry looks surprised to see Yivo's actual face. However, when he fell in love with shkler, he must have already seen shkler face.
  • Leela's Wristlojackimator made it through the anomaly undamaged.
  • When Yivo is stabbed by Benders cables, Zapps hair turned orange when a high view was used.
  • Diamondillium could not hold up against Yivo's tentacles, but the windows and walls of the Planet Express Building did.
    • However, the windows could be made of diamondium, meaning it may actually be stronger than diamondillium. Or Yivo's Gentacles are not as strong as shklis tentacles are.
