The Galápagos Islands are small set of volcanic islands located in the Pacific Ocean. In the 31st century, President Nixon, in an attempt to solve the robot-caused global warming crisis, invited all the robots on Earth to a beach party on the Galápagos Islands. He then planned on deactivating every last one from space using an electromagnetic pulse. His plan was foiled when all of the robots vented their exhaust upward at once, simultaneously moving the earth farther from the sun, dodging the pulse, and solving the global warming crisis. Due to this alteration of the Earth's orbit, the year was lengthened by one week, dubbed Robot Party Week.

Trivia

  • According to the writers, the Galápagos Islands were chosen for their remote location and proximity to the equator. If the robots were to alter Earth's orbit, they would need to be approximately along the equator to push in the right direction.
    • For reference purposes, it should be noted, that it would also depend on the season, due to the Earth slightly tipping according to the sun, depending on season.
    • Pushing the Earth directly away from the sun would actually create an elliptical orbit, not a larger circular orbit. The effect of this new path would place the Earth both farther from and closer to the sun, depending on the season, heating and cooling the planet in turn.
