- Date Night is also a 2010 screwball comedy film directed by Shawn Levy and starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey. This, however, cannot be considered a reference, as the movie was released 10 years after "The Problem with Popplers" first aired.
- The name is a portmanteau of Dateline and Nightline.
