Hedonism Bot is a robot who has the concept of hedonism written right into his programming. He is extremely fond of food, wine, opera, vomiting and sex orgies, among other things, and he apologizes for nothing.

Character description
Hedonism Bot's behaviour resembles that of a rich decadent Roman noble of ancient times, and he is a great patron of the opera with his very own box in the Metropolitan House of Opera - he even ordered Fry to write an opera in which Fry would perform the Holophonor.(4ACV18)

Hedonism Bot also enjoys a number of unconventional hedonistic pleasures, including being covered in chocolate icing, sex orgies and robosexuality.

Hedonism Bot was to be married to a house in the suburbs in July of 3010, but the night before, he held a bachelor party where, due to a nuclear powered stripper malfuctioning, he was the only survivor. It is unclear if he was married or not, but as evidenced by a party in September, his hedonistic ways of promiscuity has not changed.

In the season three commentary, Matt Groening points out the importance of the name being hedonism bot and not hedonist bot - he is not only hedonist, he is the actual personification of hedonism.

Trivia
*Hedonism is the philosophy that pleasure is of ultimate importance, the most important pursuit.
*Hedonismbot is one of the very few robots designed without square pupils. However, there was one moment in The Beast with a Billion Backs when he did have square pupils.
*Another design flaw arose in The Beast with a Billion Backs when he had a mouth designed similarly to Bender's instead of vertical lines, though it worked the same as usual.
*Is made of solid gold (although apparently there is some plating to give him different shades of it).
*Is a member of the League of Robots.
*Hedonism Bot is shown supporting Proposition ∞, even though the relationship with his semi-recurring valet/lover named Djambi (a male human) is not legalized by it.
**The fact that his relationship with Djambi was not legalized may explain why he planned to get married to a house in "The Late Philip J. Fry".

The Third World of the Antares system (or Antares 3) is a planet located on the third position of the Antares system. It was visited by the Planet Express crew in 3010 for e-waste extermination. The planet is inhabited by the Antarians. Their children work as slaves, and do all the work around it, except whipping themselves. Its atmosphere seems extremely polluted and toxic due to the tons of garbage that is disposed of on the surface, and it is lethal to several species, including a bird who dies after flying through the smoke and a dog who loses his tail after drinking still water.

Additional Info
Allusions
*The nature of the planet and its inhabitants, including their faux-Indian accents, while a general allusion to First World mistreatment of the Third World on Earth, presumably is a reference to the Indian town of Alang in particular. The people of Alang work as "ship breakers"; decommissioned ships from across the world, ranging from passenger lines to chemical tankers, are deliberated beached on the Arabian Sea coastline just outside Alang and are then scrapped by the locals, who salvage whatever they can from the ships' husks. Almost the entire community is involved in either scrapping or supporting the scrappers. Alang is notorious for its reputation for having little or no regard for the safety or long-term health of its workers and the ships that are dismantled there often contain severely harmful toxic substances such as asbestos, PCBs and mercury. Not only does this have a severe impact on the health of the workers, it also impacts badly on the local environment.

Trivia
*The name of this planet - and possibly its function - reference the third world of the Solar System.
*The name of the system might be from the german word 'anderes', which translates to 'other' to emphasize the role of this planet (or system) as some place to dump the garbage of the civilized world.
**Antares is an actual star, they may have chosen it at random, or because of the above reason.

Dr. John A. Zoidberg is a Decapodian employed as staff doctor at Planet Express and an honorary Globetrotter. He has been employed at the company for the past ten years. It is uncertain whether he is technically and legally qualified for this job, for he seems to be a bit hazy on details of human anatomy and frequently mixes up human organs, orifices and genders, and in several instances can't even tell a human from a robot.

There is evidence that he doesn't even have a medical degree (on one occasion he claims that he lost it in a volcano, and in "The Duh-Vinci Code", he claims his doctorate is in art history, not medicine), but Zoidberg has never let himself be stopped by this, and it is not known whether he is actually a competent doctor when dealing with his own species. In fact he has occasionally shown extraordinary medical skills, although this was perhaps only by accident. It is possible that he carried out his medical training on Decapod 10 as he has little or no familiarity with human anatomy. He is desperately poor and most of his meals come from garbage cans or dumpsters. He seems able to eat and digest almost anything, including clothing, and will do anything for a free meal.

It is likely that the Professor keeps him on staff for the dual purpose of avoiding liability by having a company doctor, and that he doesn't have to pay Zoidberg nearly as much as an actual licensed physician (hence Zoidberg's poverty).

Personality
Zoidberg does not seem to be very intelligent, but is rather nice and friendly. This is despite the fact that most of his co-workers look down on him, especially Hermes, who likes to make his life even more miserable. He lives with a continuing delusion that he is well regarded by the rest of the Planet Express crew. Zoidberg is Professor Farnsworth's oldest friend, which suggests that Dr. Zoidberg is much older than he appears. A citizen of Earth, he loves his chosen home planet for the personal freedom it provides. He is also apparently the only intelligent organism on Earth deemed nice by the Robot Santa Claus. It is unknown why, but it may be because of a glitch in Santa or because of Zoidberg's kind and innocent personality.

Biography
Dr. Zoidberg was born on Decapod 10 and seems to have visited high school there, apparently Edna was a class mate or at least at the same school. During that time, his face was covered in barnacles, for which he was laughed at. He wanted to become a comedian but was looked down on for it so he developed an interest in medical science, which was looked down on because he gave up on his dream of being a comedian. Eventually, he went to medical school and left his home planet to seek his fortune on Earth, although it is not known whether he studied on Decapod 10 or on Earth. For this, he had to give up his life-long dream of stepping into the footsteps of his uncle Harold Zoid, the famous master comedian of earlier days, and becoming a comedian. He has tried to be a freelance comedian nonetheless, but somehow seems to lack the necessary talent. Zoidberg is sometimes referred to as the Professor's oldest friend, which could mean that he is a lot older than he looks, but also might indicate poor social skills on the Professor's side, which is much more likely, although there have been several hints that he is older than he looks in several episodes.

Zoidberg once saved Fry's life by transplanting his head onto Amy's shoulder when his body was severely damaged in a car crash on Jupiter's moon Europa. On another occasion, he tried to kill Fry in the Decapodian tradition of Claw-Plach. He has served as a military doctor in the conflict with Spheron 1 and defeated the Decapodian oppressors who had occupied Earth in response to Zoidberg being sentenced to death for eating an Earth flag. On one occasion he travelled through time to 1947 Roswell, was captured by the US army, met President Harry Truman (it is unclear which of them was more baffled by the other), and was partially vivisected before being rescued and returned to the future.

Family
*Norm, Sam and Sadie, parents (mentioned in 3ACV08), presumably one is the woman who raised him (seen in 4ACV05), the other two are deceased biological parents. He referred to one of them (his mother) as a saint, which was most likely just an expression.
*Harold Zoid, uncle
*His brother Norman and up to nine other siblings that budded from Zoidberg during the coral stage of his larval stadium. A duplicate Norman dies when he is sucked into the Fountain of Aging, but all other siblings are never mentioned again.
*Zoidfarb, cousin - Zoidberg received an Xmas card from him in "Xmas Story"
*Cubert, godson

Production
The original inspiration and the basic traits and characteristics were developed by David X. Cohen, while the cartoon design was created by Matt Groening. The later refinement and addition of various traits came from the various writers.

Cohen's name for Dr Zoidberg came from a video game he had developed during the 1980s, called "Zoid", which was largely inspired by the popular arcade game Qix. Cohen tried to get the then famous publisher Brøderbund to publish the game. Unfortunately, Brøderbund refused to published Cohen's assembly-written game, and he shelved it. Dr Zoidberg was thus named to honour those wasted years in college.

Cohen's inspiration came from Bones McCoy from Star Trek, the doctor on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Bones was often faced with treating aliens and other non-humans, including Spock. Cohen's idea for Zoidberg was the exact opposite, where an alien would perform on humans. Zoidberg's trait of being a bad doctor was then established.

Later traits, such as his lust for seafood, became apparent in "A Fishful of Dollars". More demeaning traits such as being poor and lonely came in "Put Your Head on My Shoulder"; eating garbage and being homeless appeared later as well.

Certain contradicting situations can be seen in "A Flight to Remember", where Zoidberg is seen being given a suite, something that the writers would not give him in the later course of the series.

Voice
Billy West has often stated that the voice of Zoidberg was inspired by profile actors from Yiddish theater such as Lou Jacobi and George Jessel.

Additional Info
Trivia
*As the show progresses, Zoidberg's apparent utility becomes less obvious, and the Planet Express staff shun his presence from one instance to another.
*As with all Decapodians, Zoidberg's mannerisms, speech, and personality are representative of dry East Coast humor readily seen in Jewish communities.
*He claims to have lost his medical degree in a volcano.
*In earlier episodes he is animated with teeth, but in later episodes he is drawn without. His mouth frills are prehensile and can move independently, although most of the time they remain loose.
*Is apparently his own medical corporation, as described on the door to his office.
*Zoidberg has a top fin or crest on his head that appears at times of emotional duress, such as "Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?" and Bender's Big Score. It seems to be linked to his species' equivalent to testosterone, as it appears to be linked to both aggression and arousal, as shown in 3.
*His greatest fantasy is to be a grandmother ("Subjugated yet honored!").
*Hermes from the earliest episodes seems to harbor a bitter hatred toward Zoidberg, never explained or given a rationale. This starts in "Hell Is Other Robots", when Hermes states someone (in fact Bender, who was addict to it) has been using a lot of electricity, then blames Zoidberg who exclaims "MEEE?"
*An alternate version of him as a blob-like creature appears in 3, although he begins as an innocent Dungeon Monster.
*In the Halloween 2008 cartoon of Homestar Runner, the Poopsmith is dressed as Zoidberg. Also, if you click him a the end of the toon, the King of Town uses the phrase "Good news, everyone"
*Apparently likes Barbados Slim (Although he says he likes a lot of people, possibly a catchphrase).
*He has been shown to cough up colorful beads after eating copious amounts of dirt, which can be sold to make money. This is only seen in the episode "Bendin' in the Wind".

*It is revealed in "The Duh-Vinci Code" that his doctorate is in Art History.
*His birthday is the day after Amy's.
Catchphrases and Running Jokes
*(At inappropriate times) Hello
*Sometimes he will (with a grin) exclaim "What an honor!" ("Roswell that Ends Well").
*Excellent, excellent!
* (Famous person)? I love that guy!
*Woop woop woop woop!iiw (This sound effect is based on sound effects made by The Three Stooges.)
*Hooray!
*I'll take eight! (in reference to Fry's Holophonor record, and the newspaper declaring "the world's greatest opera" sucks). This phrase is only used in the original series finale
*Dibs on...! or alternative forms of calling dibs on something. Zoidberg usually comes late to Bender (for Leela's iPod in Into the Wild Green Yonder and the ship's shotgun in "Parasites Lost") or Amy (for Leela's maid of honor in Bender's Big Score)
*(Depressed, after being insulted, ignored, or one-upped) Awwww...

Also, he is usually shown to be highly unintelligent when it comes to being a doctor, such as claiming Amy the father of Leela's poppler, humans having multiple mouths, and Fry being a robot. More so, he often mistakes the human penis for other objects, especially that of Hermes. The closest he has ever been to showing competence in the field of medical science was in "Parasites Lost", but only because he saw it in a commercial.

"The Duh-Vinci Code" is the ninety-third episode of Futurama, the fifth of the sixth production season and the seventh broadcast season. It aired 15 July, 2010 on Comedy Central. After Fry and the Professor discover a sketch by Leonardo da Vinci, the crew races to Rome to discover his big secret.

The Story
Act I: "All my life I've been inspired by great minds"
Fry is trying his luck in Who Dares To Be A Millionaire?, a game show hosted by Morbo. He fails the first question and gets "thrown out". Later, the crew is gathered by the conference table discussing Fry's (lack of) intelligence. Hermes and the Professor accuse Fry of being dumb, while Amy and Leela stand up for him. The Professor, thinking he was too harsh on Fry, takes him to the lab to explain why he finds him "so repugnant". Farnsworth tells Fry about the great minds that have inspired him all his life, such as Leonardo da Vinci, his personal role model. He shows "the dumb monkey" his most precious possessions, such as Achilles' heel, some of Leonardo's creations, and his beard. Fry accidentally discovers a hidden drawing in the beard, a drawing of Da Vinci's fabled lost invention. He offers his help to the Professor to figure out what it was for, but all he gets in return is a teasing laugh.

In front of the Planet Express building, Fry is distracted by his thoughts and gets hit by a hover car. He returns from the hospital two weeks later and the Professor is still trying to deduce the function of the mysterious device. Bender walks in with the original version of The Last Supper (because everyone at Kinko's was an idiot), which reveals a clue after a High-Powered X-Ray is fired at it. It seems that St. James was actually a robot. The crew then races to Future-Rome to unearth what became of St. James.

Act II: "My God - Robot St. James is a zombie!"
In Rome, the crew finds St. James' grave in the catacombs. The robot inside explains he is not St. James but Animatronio, a robot built by Leonardo da Vinci to be his artist model, who was left to guard da Vinci's big secret and await his Shadow Society of Intellectuals. When he realizes the crew is not part of the Society, he refuses to tell them any more, and 'dies' before Leela can force him.

Even though Animatronio is dead, the Professor manages to deduce where the next clue is, and the crew travels to the Trevi Fountain. However, it is guarded by a giant octopus. After Bender kills it in a climactic battle (ending with a shootout), he finds a giant "nickel" featuring The Vitruvian Man a the bottom of the fountain. As Bender grabs it, he discovers it's actually a giant drain plug, which sucks bender into the sewers. The rest of the Planet Express Crew follows. As they enter the sewers, so does a mysterious hooded figure.

Emerging in the Pantheon, they discover a statue of the Vitruvian Man and a giant coin slot. When putting in Bender's "nickel", the man moves and reveals da Vinci's secret workshop. As they observe the inventions, the cloaked Animatronio shows up and attacks them. He is immediately knocked down by Bender and once again feigns death. The Professor and Fry sit in da Vinci's nonfunctional flying machine. A chain of Goldberg machine occur to put the machine in space. The Professor realizes it didn't work in air because it's not supposed to - it's a space ship. The flying machine blasts off with Fry and the Professor in it.

Act III: "In truth, I am what you call a 'space alien'"
After a month of flight in space, the flying machine lands on an Earth-like planet. There they meet Leonardo da Vinci who explains that he is actually an alien from Planet Vinci who visited Earth centuries ago. The aliens of the planet are incredibly smart, Leonardo being the stupidest person and for that reason leaving for Earth to feel intelligent, only to return when he became annoyed at being surrounded by unintelligent people. Leonardo explains that he used to enjoy himself inventing, but that he since he lost the plans for his masterpiece, the Macchina Magnifica, he can't find solace even in that. Fry shows the sketch for the lost invention they found, and Leonardo says it's the one.

Fry and Leonardo find friendship, both being the stupidest of their planet. They build the Macchina Magnifica together. Meanwhile, the Professor finds trouble, feeling inferior and stupid during mathematical lectures on the planet. Finally the day comes for the big reveal of da Vinci's brilliant invention, and he shows off... a doomsday device! His plan is to have his revenge and exterminate everyone who has ever made him feel inferior. Fry protests, as he was told it was an ice cream machine. The Professor, too, joins Leonardo, as long as they kill his math teacher first.

The doomsday device barely kills anyone, but Fry manages to stop the device by falling inside it, jamming the gears. In a last attempt, Leonardo pulls a lever for a final attack, but the machine malfunctions and a cog falls on Leonardo, presumably killing him. Fry and Professor head to the flying machine and travel back home.

}}
Scruffy is the janitor at Planet Express and is the only person working for Planet Express who isn't a primary character. He reads pornography, and believes in his company, as evident by his purchase of 30,000 more shares of Planet Express than the rest of its employees. The other members of staff only see him occasionally, and rarely recognize him when they do. Sometimes he doesn't recognize them either. Scruffy has indicated that he's been to prison.

Scruffy was originally just a background character seen working various jobs. However writers brought him in on the murder scene of "Anthology of Interest I" because they were running out of non-dead characters. From there his permanent role as the Janitor of Planet Express was cemented when he was brought back in later episodes without changing jobs.

Biography
While little is known about Scruffy's background, he has been working at the Planet Express delivery company since at least 2995, when he became employee of the year. In the early years of the 31st century, he also took several other jobs, for example at the Le Spa and as a roadie for the Beastie Boys.

He entered the Panama Wormhole, after helping to rescue his colleagues, along with all the other Planet Express staff members, and was killed and then reborn a short time later.

Friendships and relationships
Though no-one at Planet Express seemed to know him in year 3000, he and Fry seems to have developed a friendship off-stage. In "The Luck of the Fryrish" Fry says that he didn't tell anyone about the location of his seven leaf clover - "not even Scruffy". In "The Beast with a Billion Backs", Fry is shown having everyone's phone numbers, but he has two to Scruffy, home and cell.

Scruffy also accompanies the rest of the crew to a Sith-il War Reenactment in "Lethal Inspection". For no apparent reason, he was seen cooking Zoidberg on a spit later in the same episode.

In 3010, Scruffy's Wash Bucket changes bodies with Amy Wong, and confesses her feelings for him. While admitting his own love, he realises that it's wrong, even in a human body, as they are too different - him, a man, and her, janitorial equipment. He ultimately asks her to leave before he changes his mind, and falls back crying to his bed.

Trivia
*The first time he appeared, he didn't speak, and his moustache and hat colors were reversed.
*Scruffy puts cameras up in every room in "Futurama Returns"
*A comment made by Fry in "The Luck of the Fryrish" ("I didn't reveal the clover's location to anyone. Not even to Scruffy!") suggests that the two may have become close friends. But, at the time, this was more likely to be a pun on the fact that everyone always seem not to know who Scruffy is. However, in The Beast with a Billion Backs Fry is shown to keep two of Scruffy's numbers, vs. one of everyone else's. This seems to extend the joke even further.
*Before the episode "Anthology of Interest I", when his real job was cemented, Scruffy had different seen jobs not in Planet Express.
**He had a career at Le Spa.
**He also worked as a roadie for the Beastie Boys.
*The Sting suggests he might be Scottish.
*His hair turned gray prior to (or during) "Anthology of Interest I". The hair and hat colour alternates between old and new during that episode.
*Scruffy is regularly seen with adult magazines such as National Pornographic, Play-Boy-Ar-De, Zero-G-Jugs, Extra Long Honkers, etc. He reads the articles.
*Has yet to complete his masters in Theoretical Janitorial Science.
*Scruffy's character is based on Billy Bob Thorton's character (Karl Childers) in the movie Sling Blade
*Scruffy was named after a bar in Venice called Scruffy O'Shea's
*The October page of the 2008 Futurama wall calendar states that his last name is "Scruffington", this may not be canon.
*Scruffy often refers to himself in the third person when he talks, except when he has to introduce himself, in which case he will say "I'm Scruffy, the janitor".
*Has both a home and cell phone available to be called on Fry's cell phone in The Beast with a Billion Backs.
*In Bender's Game, he became a person who apparently cleans up after the Centaurs.
}}

How can the fing-longer be Farnsworth's invention?

For him to have asked the What If? machine what life would be like if he'd invented the fing-longer, he must have knowledge of the fing-longer as a real thing. This implies it was invented by someone else. In this case, his later use of it can be seen merely as him using a commercially-available product.
Any thoughts? Mukor 02:04, 8 July 2008 (CEST)
:An idea may not be concrete evidence. I think the joke refers to the fact that he had considered inventing it, but didn't (maybe because he considered it too silly), but the What If machine showed him it would be a huge success, so he did invent it eventually. Of course, that whole sequence is completely silly. Regardless, there are more evidence that he himself invented than he used a commercial version. --SvipTalk 02:07, 8 July 2008 (CEST)
::That makes sense, I hadn't considered that he might be asking about a prospective invention of his. His wistful, rather than enthusiastic, demeanour on seeing the What-If success still leads me to think it's an existing non-Farnsworth invention though. But with the evidence that he's the only character who mentions or uses it, I guess it makes the most sense to class it his invention. --Mukor 02:31, 8 July 2008 (CEST)
