Discussion

I suppose all this spam is being caused by one single person, who's trying to have some fun at The Infosphere's expense with dozens of new different users. (Duh.) Can't you find out his IP address and just block that? Or even their entire area? Sanfazer 18:35, 27 January 2011 (CET)

Definitely not a consistent IP. - Quolnok 00:51, 28 January 2011 (CET)
They seem to be consistently creating an account and spamming as it, as such, I have disabled creation of accounts for IP users. Until we have settled this issue.
Anyone reading this who wants an account should contact a SysOp, they can still create accounts for others. --Sviptalk 18:45, 28 January 2011 (CET)
Good measure. That oughta take care of those vandals. But there's still a couple of pages out there you might've missed because of this "invasion": Talk:Assisted Living Nebula and Talk:Globetrotter University. Delete them s'il vous plait. Sanfazer 23:32, 28 January 2011 (CET)
So done. --Sviptalk 14:49, 29 January 2011 (CET)

Spam is consistently on the rise, the spambots are getting too clever for our CAPTCHA. As a temporary resort, I will block unregistered users from creating pages. In the mean time I will look for an alternative to ConfirmEdit. --Sviptalk 14:54, 9 February 2011 (CET)

That's, again, a good measure. But 9 out of 18 of our most recent pages (Europe, Fulcrum County Prism, Empire State Building, Fashion, Theodore Roosevelt, Nanny-Cams, Osirian High Priest, ‎Channel 4√4, and Joss Whedon) were created by IPs. (Yeah, I've been paying attention to Special:NewPages.) The amount of new articles will certainly diminish. I know this is probably the only way to stop The Ongoing Invasion, but it's gonna cost us. Try not to take too long! Sanfazer 23:58, 9 February 2011 (CET)

Updates

I installed a far more effective CAPTCHA system now (one that actually uses images). Guests can now create pages and accounts again. --Sviptalk 11:24, 9 April 2011 (CEST)

Neat! - Quolnok 12:17, 9 April 2011 (CEST)
Of the four pages created so far, it looks like two of them are spam. One definitely is and this other article article looks like spam also. While not off to an amazing start, I like the new system. It forces me to look over the page a second time before submitting. Teyrn of Highever 19:34, 9 April 2011 (CEST)
As long as it doesn't allow for vandalism like that of late January, we should be safe. Sanfazer 22:14, 9 April 2011 (CEST)
What about our new pages? Deletion? Teyrn of Highever 22:19, 9 April 2011 (CEST)
Deleted one, wrote on the other's talk page. --Sviptalk 00:10, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
Thanks, I joined in on the talk page. Teyrn of Highever 00:12, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
While I have no proof that all of the edits performed by ZappBranniganKifKroker are spam, he started inputting info about episodes from broadcast season 8 and a couple from season 9. If it is not spam, my pre-emptive apologies. Teyrn of Highever 12:45, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
They might not be spam but for the summary of the edit for 7ACV07 he put "i got my information from my head" which makes me nervous. If his edits are just good edits without citation of any sort, I'm in charge of the apology committee. Teyrn of Highever 13:12, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
Well it's not spam. But it is almost certainly vandalism. It sure looks like he made it up. Could be one of the guys who was making stuff up when the new run started up. There's a slim chance that he's involved in production and therefore unable to elaborate. I believe that a Bongo staff member is editing wikipedia. - Quolnok 14:34, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
So what is the protocol? I already put something on his talk page, is there something more I should do? And, on the slim chance he is legitimate, shouldn't he respect the site's rules on leaks and future seasons, so it would be deleted anyway. Teyrn of Highever 14:46, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
If they keep making these edits without answering your talk page post, they should be blocked. Let's hope it won't come to that. Sanfazer 22:51, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
I'll update the two of you if something comes up. Teyrn of Highever 22:55, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
