New Images

Personally I think all images from the new episodes should be considered temporary until the DVD's come out. Any screenshots will either come from legal means (which would mean they're Comedy Central branded in the corner) and any without the branding will have come from illegal sources and are thus of lower quality. I think they need to all be tagged somehow so that later when the DVD's are out we can track down these images that need replacement easily. I think we already have a similar template, but perhaps we need one that specifically states that it's a temporary image or that it's awaiting a DVD release so users aren't confused and just replace it with another low-quality image. --Buddy 20:02, 16 July 2010 (CEST)

Does that mean that we can capture HD screenshots and leave/place the Comedy Central logo in the corner or were you specifically referring to promo screens released by the station? Forgive my ignorance, I know not what I... can legally upload. --Mini-Me 23:27, 18 July 2010 (CEST)
No, he just said that if the Comedy Central logo is removed, something must be fishy. You are encouraged to upload the image from Comedy Central, as they are the real source, but remember to use the {{Futurama screen cap}} template in the description when uploading, this will give a clear description on the page that these are uploaded without the owner's authorisation or encouragement. --Sviptalk 23:48, 18 July 2010 (CEST)
Likewise with the screenshots that come from the filmisodes, the scenes/captions not in the films, should be replaced if that stuff ends up on the season 6 DVDs/BDs as I expect it to. - Quolnok 06:36, 21 July 2010 (CEST)
Just to clarify, so is it okay to upload screenshots? I for myself purchase episodes over iTunes which makes it fairly easy to create high-quality screenshots. I'm not sure if they have the Comedy Central logo (probably not). I would not upload any of them if I knew it was illegal. --Trickymaster 20:37, 5 August 2010 (CEST)
The legality of our screenshots is questionable. We claim it is fair use, on the grounds that we use the images for critical analysis and discussion, but we have not obtained permission to use them in any way. Theoretically, Fox could ask us to remove them at any time, and unless our servers are located in a country that doesn't recognize American copyright laws, we'd have to comply. The real issue I was referring to in my original post is quality. Generally, internet-streamed media is of lesser quality than DVD's, so I'm simply saying that anything from the new season is likely to be of a slightly lower quality, and should be marked as temporary until the DVD's come out and high-quality replacements can be created. --Buddy 22:18, 5 August 2010 (CEST)
People should also remember to add {{Futurama screen cap}} when they upload an image. I intend to add this to an automatic process of uploading images (selecting the licence, that is), so it will be easier for people to do. This text box includes some copyright notice about the image; such as stating that we are using it without their consent. And of course state who owns the rights to it. This sort of statement is usually enough for these companies, as they feel their rights haven't been tampered with, but they are of course at right to ask us to pull them. They have so far not made a noise on this regard. --Sviptalk 23:56, 5 August 2010 (CEST)
