Charlemagne was a European leader who was King of the Franks from 768 AD, and Emperor of the Romans from 800 AD, until his death in 814 AD. Over 2000 years after his death, Bender pillaged the remains of Charlemagne, possibly from his tomb in Aachen Cathedral. After Fry said that his dog Seymour was smart enough to dig up bones, Bender presented the remains to prove his own intelligence. [4ACV07]
During his life, Charlemagne united much of Western Europe under one administration for the first time since the Roman Empire and laid the foundation for the succeeding dynasties of the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of France.
